unRAID system as Thunderbolt 3 drive?

Featured Replies

I'm working with a professional video editor and he is fed up with trying to work with his qnap over ethernet. I want to build him an unRAID system, but he wants it as plug-and-play as possible, and wants to be able to plug in using Thunderbolt and have it simply work as an external drive does. Is it possible to use thunderbolt 3 to access the array? Can the end-user experience be made that simple (after all the server configuration, of course)?

unRAID isn't the right choice for video editing since unRAID doesn't stripe drives (i.e. RAID 0) to increase read/write speeds.

People editing videos want extremely high read/write speeds.

Your best choice is to buy a DAS (Direct Attached Enclosure) and set it up for RAID 10. Sans Digital has off the shelf consumer hardware, but there are also a lot of other choices.
