Load keeps spiking and I can't figure out how to track it down

The system basically becomes unresponsive. Apps don't work, can't load the web ui and sometimes htop won't even load. What can I do to track down what's doing this when it happens? I think it's an IO issues just not sure what is causing it and how, seems pretty random.

    Since qemu is listed as top cpu consumer, maybe a VM has something to do with it?

    Install the nerdpack plugin, and then install and run "iotop"

    Try installing the NetData app from the apps tab.  Keeps graphical history to help you narrow it all down.
