January 5, 20188 yr Hi, So I am currently trying out unRAID. My goal is to have a Windows 7 VM with a GTX 960 passed through to it along with a keyboard and mouse as my workstation. I have tried everything I have been able to find so far and nothing seems to be working. I am attaching the VMs config file, system information, system devices, and the syslinux config file. This machine is currently just for testing so I have no issues with wiping or resetting. Note that both "pcie_acs_override=downstream" and "vfio_iommu_type1.allow_unsafe_interrupts=1" are enabled. As well as the pass through works fine with a Windows 10 VM. However I am looking to get Windows 7 running. Thanks, Charles System_Devices.txt VM_Config.xml Syslinux_Config.txt
January 6, 20188 yr You never mentioned what the problem is with win 7. You aren't really giving us anything to work with.

January 6, 20188 yr So no errors when starting the VM, just a black screen? Have you tried changing from i440fx to Q35 or vice versa? Might be worth trying to dump the vbios of your GPU and add it to the VM's XML.
January 7, 20188 yr Author Unfortunately no nothing it says the VM is running but no output. I have tested with 3 cards (Nvidia 8400 GS, GT 210, GTX 960). I know that the 8400 GS and the GT 210 both have legacy bios while the GTX 960 seems to support both. All three have been tested in a couple other machines and work fine. And with the Windows 10 EFI machine posting on the GTX 960 I know that PCIe Pass through seems to work fine. I am going to try dumping the vbios and adding to the XML I will post back with results.
January 8, 20188 yr don't try to run windows with vnc viewer and a gpu. many folks seem to report problems doing that. Edited January 8, 20188 yr by 1812

January 8, 20188 yr Author Unfortunately it is not. I had tried it as an option for installing Windows then simply booting the system afterwards. However even with it removed and just the GPU passed through I am still not getting a post on the machine.
