fibre channel support

Featured Replies

does any one know if unraid works with fibre channel networks? I was thinking of upgrading my ethernet network to that.

I don't believe unraid has support for fibre channel networks.  Even if it did, you wouldn't see much speed benefit - unraid already doesn't even max out gigabit ethernet.

I'm interested in what you mean about unraid not giving the full gigabit ethernet... Is that a limitation of the program? I understand that you'll never get the full 1000mbps in a network. If I were ever to upgrade to 10GBE for example would i see an increase in speed, or does unraid cap off at some point under 1gb?

In typical unRAID systems, the hard drive speeds (30-44 MB/s writes, 60-110 MB/s reads) are below the limits of Gigabit networking.

It has been my experience that i can transfer disk to disk within MC much faster than via a gigabit network. This speed being much less than the network is capable of.

IMHO there is another bottleneck somewhere.
