Rsync WEB GUI Help please.

Joe L.  and other Unraid Community,

I was wondering if you could help me. I am new to Unraid but so far I have been able to do everything I need with my server. The problem I have is that I think that I would like to do Backups with Rsync. But I have a problem with do this with line entries. I am concerned that I might make a mistake like I have with other Dos based windows Utilities or Windows utilities I did not understand and loose much of my data if not all.

So here is what I would like to ask you are there any good Rsync web GUI that I could use that you recommend or could put into Unmenu so that it could be straight forward. An example would be something that would allow you to path to the right folder by following the TREE and also do this for the target in a network location? I am not looking for supper ultra sophisticated just something that works and works with as little problems as possible. One person suggested http://backuppc.sourceforge.net but it seems very difficult to install on Unraid I would not know where to begin. And then it seems too much for just what I need.

I have several computers on my Lan, I need a monthly backup of data in a WDworld drive, 4 laptops worth of my documents synchronized and one desktop that I use for recent projects. Though I know some script logic I really don’t want to lose any data so I am afraid to do this with no help (web GUI or otherwise).

Sorry for the long post.

I know exactly what you're talking about Thornwood.  I use rsync to move files from a usb HD to my unraid server.  In order for me to be 100% sure I didn't overwrite or inadvertently destroy my unraid data, I keep the script saved in a text file so I can cut and paste.  It's clunky to do, but as I'm not used to Linux and it's lack of n00b control, it makes me feel better to have a consistent piece of code I don't have to type on the fly.

Thank you for your reply I just wish that we could have a way to solve this kind of problem... I guess i will try to install this BackupPC-3.2.0beta1.tar.gz on the normal unraid chip i have a good spare. I will then see 1 if it can be installed and 2 how good it is.

thank you aiden

I've been using Acronis on my client PC to back things up but I run into issues with permissions and must do it manually - grr. It works however and it will consolidate backups in the version I'm using which I like.

I ran across http://www.bacula.org/en/ the other day though and it sounds interesting! WEB controlled server daemon and client daemons on various PCs. Has anyone looked into this at all? If a server daemon could run on unRAID then we'd have something that at least LOOKS straightforward. Thoughts?
