sam i am
Hiya, Before I pull the trigger on a license - I have 6x1TB drives, will UnRaid support displaying them all as a single share? i.e. one share \\tower\singleshare - Size 5tb + 1tb parity I searched but I couldn't find anything.. Thanks Sam Basically, yes. You would create a top level directory named as whatever you want the share name to be. (Any top level directories are automatically made into shares on the LAN if you enable the user-share feature.) No single file can span physical disks (so no single file can be over 1TB for your 1TB disks) You can have the same top-level-directory on all the disks, and the union of all of them will be presented as a single share on the LAN. It is all transparent to a PC looking for data on the LAN or saving files to the server. Joe L. Link to comment
sam i am
Perfect, is this demonstratable with the pre-registered version? Or is it the 'user-share' option? Thanks Sam Link to comment
Joe L.
Perfect, is this demonstratable with the pre-registered version? Or is it the 'user-share' option? Thanks Sam Yes, it is available on the free version. It supports two data disks and 1 parity disk. The files on the two data disks can show as a single share. The key is to only have one top level directory, and organize your files under it in sub-directories. You can have more than one top level directory, but each top level directory is presented as a different share on the LAN. I have a "Movies", "Pictures", "Music" and "data" top level directories on my 10 disks. All the movie files are presented in a single share for ease of use by my media players on the LAN.) You would need something like "Media" as your top level folder and sub-folders under it to organize your data. You would then see "Media" on the LAN, and in it the sub-folders. You would access it as \\tower\Media Joe L. Link to comment
sam i am
Hmm, I can't find where to set that. Right now my shares are just Disk1, Disk2. How do I create a combine share? It doesn't seem to have this option anywhere.. Link to comment

It doesn't seem to have this option anywhere.. You must enable user-shares. The array must be stopped to enable them. It is done on the top of the "Shares" page. I have my "disk" share set to "Export read/write hidden" so they are accessible if I use their explicit path, but they do not show up in the media players. Link to comment
lionelhutz
You have to stop the array then go to the shares tab and pick enable user shares. Then, start the array again and go back to the shares tab and there will be boxes to create a user share. Put in a name and hit the apply. That share will then appear on the network. The directory will be created on disk1 when you write to this share. When it's time to use disk2 the directory will be created there too. Peter Link to comment
Rajahal
I'm not trying to browbeat here, but I'm confused as to why you weren't able to find information on this on your own. User Shares are one of the big selling points of unRAID, and LimeTech describes them on their website, here: http://www.lime-technology.com/home/51-digital-media-storage-solutions as well as here: http://www.lime-technology.com/technology/usershares They are also described in the wiki, here: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=UnRAID_Manual#User_shares_2 Is there something we can do that would have made this information easier to find? When you said you searched for the information, did you mean that you searched the LimeTech website, the forums, the wiki, or all three? Link to comment
