grimm2000
I just got my Norco 4220 and I ordered a Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. What cable do you use to connect these two items? They both use breakout cables, but is there a cable for a direct link? Link to comment
DocBlock
Yep. SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 is what you need. I bought mine direct from Norco, their price was reasonable, and I picked up a spare drive cage while I was at it, in case I break one at some point. Link to comment
Rajahal
I bought these ones: NORCO C-SFF8087-D SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 Internal Multilane SAS Cable Tested them out today, they work well. Remember that you'll need two cables per card, or four total if you are going for the full 20 drives with two cards. The total price after shipping was $70 for four of these cables. A bit more than I'm used to paying for cables, but they do work well... Those were the shortest cables I could find (1.64 ft), and they were still about twice as long as they need to be. If you can find any shorter cables, I would recommend buying them instead. They are very thick and you can't just zip tie the excess cable neatly away like you can with SATA and other smaller cables. DocBlock
That same cable direct from Norco is a bit cheaper (surprisingly): http://www.ipcdirect.net/servlet/Detail?no=216 They also have the reverse breakout for going to the motherboard at $12: http://www.ipcdirect.net/servlet/Detail?no=215 Link to comment
Rajahal
After shipping, the total for 4 of those cables from ipcdirect came to $85.84, so Newegg is still cheaper. I don't know how they can justify charging $35 to ship a 1 lb box of 4 cables... Link to comment
grimm2000
I got the cables yesterday and installed them. Worked like a charm. Thank you all to who responded. Link to comment
DocBlock
Looks like they charge a fortune for shipping if the order is under $50. Adding an extra drive tray ($5) to the order caused shipping to be $3. Link to comment
tmp31416
I just got my Norco 4220 and I ordered a Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. What cable do you use to connect these two items? They both use breakout cables, but is there a cable for a direct link? can i be indiscrete and ask where you have bought your supermicro card? they are nearly impossible to find! cheers.
