June 2, 201016 yr Hi guys, Things are progressing nicely I think. I'm up to 7 drives now. If you're interested this is a continuation of a previous thread: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=6548.0 I replaced a bad Samsung 1.5TB drive with an identical one. These both are pulls from Samsung "Story" external cases, (beautiful design, btw). I'm still not fully up to speed on reading S.M.A.R.T. reports, it seems ok to me, but your input would be great. I did a preclear using Joe L.'s script and have included the syslog here. THANKS!! Adam New_sdd-preclear-syslog-2010-6-1.rtf.zip
June 2, 201016 yr Looks to me like there were a number of un-correctable errors: Jun 1 14:56:01 unRAID preclear_disk-diff[11419]: < 187 Reported_Uncorrect 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 Jun 1 14:56:01 unRAID preclear_disk-diff[11419]: --- Jun 1 14:56:01 unRAID preclear_disk-diff[11419]: > 187 Reported_Uncorrect 0x0032 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 72 and one more pending re-allocation: Jun 1 14:56:01 unRAID preclear_disk-diff[11419]: < 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 0 Jun 1 14:56:01 unRAID preclear_disk-diff[11419]: --- Jun 1 14:56:01 unRAID preclear_disk-diff[11419]: > 197 Current_Pending_Sector 0x0012 100 100 000 Old_age Always - 1 I'd keep an eye on that drive. It might be fine, but if you see rising numbers of un-readable sectors with another pre-clear cycle, or as you use it in your server, RMA it.
June 2, 201016 yr Author This is weird, I'm wondering if there's an issue with SAMSUNG hard drives. I did a quick search and there seems to be some stuff going on with these drives. Could there be a jumper issue or something like that?
