It is not a function of the UPS so much as it is a combination of the UPS and the software that needs to be installed to tell it what to do. JoeL. unmenu add-on allows you to install the needed software parts to shutdown the server when needed. You will need the APC package and powerdown package installed to get a clean shutdown of the server when the battery runs low.
June 4, 201016 yr Author Yes I know, but do these specific APC UPS models support the necessary messaging to active the powerdown package (ofcourse after installing the APC package as well)?
June 4, 201016 yr Joe.. do you just install the powerdown pkg or do you need to configure anything? no configuration is needed for the powerdown package written by WeeboTech. Just download and install it, and then press the button to have it re-installed upon reboot.
June 4, 201016 yr One of the reviews here seems to confirm the RS500 VA works with apcupsd. http://www.ebuyer.com/product/27850 This post confirms that the CS500 unit also works. http://thecususergroup.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=n5200modifications&action=display&thread=1655 Basically, as far as I can tell. it will support all the APC brand units, even older ones with the appropriate serial cable.
