Video playback freezes

Featured Replies

Hi all. Been recently having issues with video playback freezing for anywhere from 3-15 seconds. This is happening on FireTV  Kodi (2 different ones) and a PC. PC and one of the Kodi's have Ethernet connections with other wi-fi. Much of the time, I will see a buffering percentage on Kodi. Once it starts playing again it will quickly fast forward the playback to get it back to being current. I am running 6.2.

I have attached diagnostic files. Any chance someone can take a look and see if there's any glaring issues? Once thing I am seeing is one of the drives is not showing the temperature as shown below. Thank you for any help you could provide.

The drive ATA-8: ST3000DM001-1CH166,             W1F1HBBQ keeps resetting itself (probably due to bad / loose cabling).  Reseat all cables to the drives

Really? Is that what these entries are?

Error 3828 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 40266 hours (1677 days + 18 hours)
When the command that caused the error occurred, the device was active or idle.

Because the drive is not reporting the SMART data correctly:

=== START OF READ SMART DATA SECTION ===
SMART Status command failed
Please get assistance from http://www.smartmontools.org/
Register values returned from SMART Status command are:
 ERR=0x00, SC=0x01, LL=0x00, LM=0x00, LH=0x00, DEV=0x00, STS=0x40
SMART Status not supported: Invalid ATA output register values
SMART overall-health self-assessment test result: UNKNOWN!
SMART Status, Attributes and Thresholds cannot be read.

Considering it's the infamous ST3000DM001 and there are a lot of possibly recent reported uncorrected errors, would need SMART data to confirm, it might be a good candidate for replacement.

Wow - thank you. Is there anything I can do to confirm if the drive should be replaced? Or are you fairly confident this is the issue?

Are West Dig Red's still a good drive? Anything better for the price?

Thanks.

Or a way to get the Smart Data to run?

Can't say for sure but considering the model and how long it lasted already I would replace it.

Yes

AFAIK not in unRAID if smartctl can't get it, not sure if running another utility on a different OS would give different results.
