June 9, 201016 yr I was adding a new 1TB to my array and in pulling my drive cage out I broke the sata connector on my monoprice PCI SATA controller. the other end of this cable is directly soldered to my drive (my bad luck broke this connection several months ago). What I want to do is remove this drive from my array and replace it with the new 1TB drive and have it rebuild the data. Is it an issue adding this drive to a different SATA port? How do I add this drive and have it rebuild the array. Do I need to do anything different since the same sata port is not available? The server is currently shut down... do I just connect the new drive to the final working sata port and assign the disk and start the array? If the procedure is the same as the wiki - just let me know. I am hesitant to do anything without some advice. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Dan
June 9, 201016 yr No issue whatsoever... Make a screen-print of the existing "Devices" page so you'll know which drive is assigned to which slot. Stop the array Power down Make the change in cabling to whatever new port needed. Power up If the array does not figure it out on its own and start itself (and it may not if a new disk controller port is involved) Go to the "Devices" page, assign the drive to its proper slot in the array Go back to the main page and press "Start" That's it. Worst case, you re-assign the drive to its logical slot in the array once you put it on the new port. DO NOT PRESS THE BUTTON LABELED as "RESTORE" as it is actually a "Delete Disk Configuration and Immediately Invalidate Parity" button with a label guaranteed to make you think it does something else.
