Adding parity and hdd

Featured Replies

I have a gigabyte 945 gsm s2 running 4 drives on unraid  plus with no problems.

I would like to add parity but the mobo  ports are full so I need a pci sata  card.

Does the location of parity on mobo or pci card make a difference?

Can they be moved between mobo and sata ?

Can anyone suggest a good pci card which is available in the uk?

No it does not matter

Yes, just assign as needed on the "devices" page.

Can't help you there... I'm in the USA.

Be aware of the HPA issue with some Gigabyte MB BIOS.  It has been the reason some have switched from using a Gigabyte MB where the "feature" is not disabled by default.  See here:

Also be aware that PCI can be a bottleneck if saturated (such as during a parity check).  If you have the option of using PCIe instead, that will be better.
