unRaid 6 slower boot than unRaid 5

Featured Replies

Hi

ive just upgraded (via a clean install) one of my servers from unRaid 5 to unRaid 6 and the first thing I’ve noticed is that the time it takes to boot and start the array probably 2-3 times what it used to take on v5? I’m running it on a HP micro server n54l with 8gb of ram and a 5-disk array with no parity drive (yet).

Any clues why why the performance is so much slower on the new version as this has killed my Kodi system (which auto-starts the required server when you select a movie etc). Now it just times-out and eventually decides that the file must no longer be available.

Any my help would be great.

Thanks

Adrian

You might attach a diagnostic file (   Tools   >>>  Diagnostics   ) to your next post so the the Guru can see if something is going on.

On my system, this sequence of events takes about ten seconds to run, while yours takes close to two minutes...

Jan  9 10:55:44 MediaServer1 s3_sleep: s3_sleep process ID 3799 started, To terminate it, type: s3_sleep -q
Jan  9 10:55:45 MediaServer1 root: Fix Common Problems Version 2018.01.06a
Jan  9 10:57:54 MediaServer1 unassigned.devices: Mounting 'Auto Mount' Devices...
Jan  9 10:57:54 MediaServer1 emhttp: Starting services...

You might want to check out if the Fix Common Problems plugin is finding  issues and address each one.

I’ve done that but it’s reporting no errors?

Million reasons why FCP could take that long.  Depends upon the spin up avoidance setting in FCP, write checks to all the drives, etc....

As a quick verification you can start unRAID in safemode and compare.

Based on @squib reply, you might be left with only two choices:  (1)--- uninstall Fix Common Problems or  (2)--- leave the server on 24-7 (Spinning down the drives will save a lot of energy...).

I had the same issue.

My server doesn't run 24/7 so I chose to check once for issues and then uninstall the FCP plugin.

Just look at the time from the start to the end of the syslog file.  (This only works after a fresh boot as normal usage of the server will result in additional entries.  However, you can usually determine when the boot process ends as there is be a flurry of almost continuous entries for up to two or three minutes for the boot process to finish and then a big gap before the next one as a result of logging a normal operation.) Your last boot period was twenty seconds.  The previous one is was well over two minutes.  So you have a boot process that is at least two minutes faster.
