oconnellc
I'm out of sata ports on my mobo and need to buy a controller card for my server. I'm running v4.4.2 of unraid. I know a little bit about hardware, but I read threads about this and people start talking about chipsets and it all goes over my head. Also, I read on the "For System Builders" page that if I'm not terribly concerned about parity check speeds, I should just go with a pci, not a pci-e card. I did a parity check on my system last night and it took 7 hours and I was asleep the entire time, so I don't really care how long that takes. I usually try to find the best deals I can online, but I have some spare time tomorrow and so if someone has a decent recommendation or two, I might just head out to microcenter to pick one up and just be done with it. Thanks in advance, Chris Link to comment
spinbot
The quicker slot in your motherboard you plug into, the better, IMHO. My card is on its way now and it will go in my PCIe16 slot. Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 Marvell 6480 8 Channel SAS/SATA RAID PCI-E Card http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=37999&vpn=AOC-SASLP-MV8&manufacture=SuperMicro This version goes in a PCI-x slot: SUPERMICRO AOC-SAT2-MV8 64-bit PCI-X133MHz SATA Controller Card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815121009&Tpk=supermicro Search the forum as these have been discussed in a few places. You can get 8 more ports for about $100, which is a great deal. Read the other threads as you need a few tips from them ( like having to buy a breakout cable(s) ). Link to comment

slarco
What mobo do u have? Supermicro c2see (see the thread title). Thanks, Chris I was asking because I looked in newegg and I couldn't find it.. Link to comment
oconnellc
I just noticed that myself. I think it is very similar to the c2sea by Supermicro, but I'm not sure about that. The c2see is listed as the 'offical' mobo on the hardware page of the wiki. Link to comment
BRiT
As spinbot posted, your best bet is the PCI-Express based Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 Marvell 6480 8 Channel SAS/SATA RAID PCI-E Card. It can be used in the 16x or 4x slot. Link to comment
BRiT
It's a deactivated product on NewEgg -- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813182162 Link to comment
