[SOLVED] Corrupt USB Drive, Drive Contents Appear Blank After Fresh Install

Featured Replies

Hello,

Thank you all for supporting these fantastic forums.  I am a long time lurker, first time poster.  I am in a bit of a bind and would appreciate any suggestions!

When I updated to version 6.4 of UNRAID, my server no longer would boot and would be stuck with a prompt that stated "no configuration file found."  Upon further inspection, it appears my USB drive was corrupted.  I attempted to back up the USB drive contents, but due to the corruption, it would not let me copy over several config files.  I ran a chkdsk fix, which then let me apparently copy the files off the USB drive to my local hard drive.

I attempted to reboot my UNRAID server using the chkdisk fixed USB drive, and I got the same "no configuration file found" error.

I then decided to place a fresh install on the USB drive.  After the fresh install using the USB creator tool from UNRAID's website, I copied my old config files onto the USB drive hoping that I could reboot with my old configurations.

I am now able to start my server and reach the UNRAID GUI from my browser, but none of my hard drives are assigned.  Further, when I attempt to assign hard drives, they all state that it is a "new hard drive" (i.e., the used and free columns to the right are blank).  At this point, I stopped and just powered downed the system out of fear that I will lose nearly 16 TB of data if UNRAID proceeded with formatting the apparently "new hard drives."

Any suggestions on how I can remount the drives while avoiding any data loss would be very much appreciated! Thank you in advance for your assistance.

If you don't know which drive is parity (assuming it's just one parity), assign all disks as data disks, start the array and there should only be one unmountable disk, that will be your parity, if there are more grab and post your diagnostics, if there only one do a new config, reassign all disks including parity, check "parity is already valid" before starting the array and run a correcting parity check since a few sync errors are expected.

Thanks so much! I was able to remount all the data disks following your suggested steps and am now re-building the parity.
