unRAID and Ember Media Manager

Featured Replies

I'm having an interesting problem:  I'm using unRAID to store my media and Ember Media Manager (http:www.embermm.com) to organize the media.  It's working fine for the movies, but the TV shows are doubling up for some reason.  This is how I have it laid out:

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Hail To The Chief\S01E01

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Hail To The Chief\S01E02

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Hail To The Chief\S01E03

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Hail To The Chief\S01E04

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Hail To The Chief\S01E05

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Hail To The Chief\S01E06

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Hail To The Chief\S01E07

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Peter Gunn\101

unRAID\disk3\HB TV Files\Peter Gunn\102

For those unfamiliar with this stuff, these are the way Ember recognizes the seasons and episodes.  You can include an S and E or not, it doesn't care.  But when I point Ember to these file paths I get each episode twice.

But I did notice that one of these episode listings apparently is a phantom.  There's a feature in Ember that allows you to load the file and scan through it. But the file only comes up on the second of the two listings.

Now I think this is an unRAID issue because I just added another networked source located on my iMac instead of the unRAID server and Ember sees it accurately, no duplication.

Any ideas?

I'm including pics of Ember doubling the episodes.

Can post a screen from Edit >> Settings >> TV Shows >> Files and Sources ??

If an "ls -al" does not show it listing twice, then it is certainly not an unRAID issue, but an application issue.

gfjardim, OK, here's the pic of the sources page.

BRIT, what is "ls -al"?

I've never had any good luck using Ember for TV episodes, but never tried it in unRAID. What I do use is Media Info Plus for my TV shows. I even have it running in command line.

http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?t=47071

I have TheRenamer copy my episode into a folder of my choosing, which of course it creates the Show name folder, season, then the episodefile.avi.

I then have a command line thing I wrote in windows that will move that folder struture into my TV show folder and then launch a command line version of MIP.

Why that extra step? I want to make sure the episode isn't a dupe or that the file is named the way I want it before I drop it into its final location.

First, you must set only the UNRAID path (can't you access it through "//UNRAID/HB TV Files"?) , then you must, in Tools, run "Clear All Cache" and "Clean Database".

After that, click "Update Library".

I've never had an issue with EMM and TV Shows on my unraid box

I had a similar problem with Ember, but it was because I used \\MOVIES rather than adding each disk, \\Disk1, \\Disk2.

Interesting feedback.

First, you must set only the UNRAID path (can't you access it through "//UNRAID/HB TV Files"?)

gfjardim, I was doing that originally with my movie files, but I was getting some other strange behavior from Ember and I think it was because I had the movie files spread over a few disks and if Ember scraped a movie file on a disk that had less free space than another disk with the same share, it would create an identical folder and put the scraped info, i.e. the .nfo, jpgs, etc, in there.  I think that might have confused Ember and XBMC at times.  And I like to have all my files together in one physical folder, that way I know where it is.  Also, by not using the disk in the path, wouldn't all the drives with that share have to spin up when accessing the file?

I suppose I could have separate shares on each disk, like "HB TV Files 1", "HB TV Files 2", etc.  I'll try clearing the cache and cleaning the database too.

What I do use is Media Info Plus for my TV shows.

Kizer, I'll check it out.

sdballer, I thought that's what I was doing, wasn't I?  It's funny, that's the opposite advice as from gfjardim.   :)

Thanks everyone for the advice.  I'll be trying a few things tonight.

Well, I tried clearing the cache and cleaning the database, that didn't fix it.  I made a user share for that folder only  and reassigned the source to //UNRAID/HB TV Files.  No go, still duplicating.  Any more ideas anyone?

Mind posting your folder structure within //UNRAID/HB TV Files?

EMM works perfectly with unRAID (for me as well), so it's neither unRAID, nor EMM or XBMC, but surely a setup issue.

unRAID shouldn't do this if the split level was set up correctly. Did you set the split level for that user share to high? Nevertheless it shouldn't confuse EMM or XBMC if you added the user share as a source. In this case neither EMM nor XBMC know if the files actually are stored on different disks.

Olympia, I did that in my first post, or am I misunderstanding you?

I hope so, I just can't figure it out yet....

Yes, I have it at high-water.  The split level issue is just not getting thru my fat head.  I've read a lot of threads here on that issue, and it should make sense, and it does...but, anyway, I'm finding it simpler to make separate folders and assign them individually.  Now I have them set up as HB TV Files d2, HB TV Files d3, etc. for each disk.  No big deal.

OK, good, so I don't have to worry about that.  Anyway, I'm still getting duplicates even with my new folder structure.  At this point, I'm trying out Kizer's suggestion and giving Media Info Plus a whirl.  It's not as elegant, but it's very powerful.

I understood, that this was an example structure. I meant the real live structure.

Or is that all what you have in there for testing purposes?

It's always a good idea to learn and understand what you are using. For example, it's also not a very good approach that you have enabled every single accompanying file types in EMM. This doesn't help.

Well, that may be true in a perfect world but I'm trying to learn unRAID on a Linux system, XBMC w/various skins & builds, Ember, Media info plus, etc. on a Windows system all at the same time, and until now it's just been me and my Apples for the last 25 years (with a short affair with an Atari ST for a year or two in my music studio...), so I'm just barely keeping my head above water with all this as it is.  I know it can be frustrating with a beginner, but I intend to be here a while and contribute as I learn.

Did you try to reinstall EMM? Maybe it's database messed up somehow and the database cleaner cannot resolve it.

If you haven't tried to do a clean install yet, try that, or simply delete media.emm file (this is the database) from EMM main folder and try again with your test folder.

Not seeng the issue here with Ember. I have it pointed at my HD movies and my DVD movies without issue and without using disk shares. Are you on the latest version of Ember? IMO TV shows are still fairly flakey but he seems to be working on it...

Yeah I agree. Movies are perfect, but the TV show aspect is why I recommend MIP.

I have been using Ember with movies recently. No issues.

Primarliy i only do it for movies as the meta data i.e. artwork and movie info updates relatively rarely.

However i have over 40 XBMC regex for TV and the meta data changes alot so i just use XBMC for that.

All bets will be off when XBMC mysql support matures.

Yes, I did a clean install twice.  I must be missing something...

I'm going to use MIP for now and come back to this later.  Thanks for your help everyone...

I've used that too a great deal but the two products always seemed to fight and I was ending up with extra files it seems. On top of that XBMC doesn't always seem to read the NFO files correctly and I need to get into the database and edit some things. there's a tool for THAT too but it doesn't seem to play well with UNC shares and I don't think it talks SQL just yet - been a few weeks though. I run SVN XBMC so it's ever changing anyway. Tool is named XBNE I think and the author is French so some of the error messages and dialogs aren't always clear to someone who only speaks American English :( does seem liek a great way to go though and with SQL access I look forward to more tools  ;D

Hey guys, I have been using ember media manager on windows and I recently got unraid. I have the unraid now setup with sabnzbd and sickbeard for tv shows (works amazing by the way) but I am looking for a solution to get rid of ember media manager if at all possible, and go towards something web/command line based that can be installed on unraid that will do the same thing ember did for my movies.  Basically rename, get all art, info and trailers. I liked the way ember did it since it was much more thorough than what xbmc would scrape.  Do you guys have any recommendations of some Ember alternatives, or will I have to still run ember from a windows computer and have it do it over the network?

I meant to post this earlier, but a few weeks ago I figured out my duplicate problem.  I've been using my Mac to coordinate my media and I've been LABELING some of the folders, puts a color on the folder.  However, when windows sees this label, it sees it as an invisible copy of the file (so it's hidden unless I unhide it in windows), and Ember picks it up as another file!  Got rid of the labels and the duplicates went away.

manolodf, I know the guys who wrote MIP are working on a web based media manager called UMM, I think, Universal Media Manager.  But I don't know about a command line type interface for unRAID.

It looks like UMM will have a linux version, so that gives me confidence that at some point it will be able to be installed on unraid somehow like sabnzbd and sickbeard have.  I hope its finished soon, or at least into a good beta stage.

All we really need is a good python coder to extract the relevant parts from XBMC backend.

The key is that the scapers need to constantly update or as soon as a site changes slightly the tool stops working. This is why stripping from XBMC would be good as you could use their scrapers

in my opinion the xbmc scrapers just arent as good as ember, since ember adds alot more tags to the nfo and other information that ends up being valuable in xbmc to show the bluray icon, and 720p etc.
