Cache drive as warm spare -- process for moving cache drive to replacement drive

Featured Replies

This isn't an issue yet, but I figure if I'm moving my warm spare into cache duty, I should know the process for moving it to a failed drive's place.

Let's say a drive fails...whenever...the cache drive is likely to have something on it. I'm assuming you can't unload the cache to the array while a drive has failed, so what do you do? Remove the drive and unload it to something else? What it a drive fails during mover process?

You assume wrong. As long as you haven't exceeded the protection of your parity by having more failed drives than you have parity drives, then all drive slots are available for reading and writing, the parity protection emulates the failed drive(s) in real time. If during the process more drives fail than you have valid parity drives, then ALL failed drives immediately become unavailable.
