VM stuttering in CPU-demanding games (BF1 & PUBG)

Hey, first time posting here. Hope I don't screw something up.

I have a VM with 4 (hyper-threaded) cores of my 8700K. I've also got a 1080 in there. Most games run fine, but In games like BF1 and PUBG, I get intermittent stutters. Despite having high frames. The stutters aren't caused by frame drops, so I think there's something wrong with the way my CPU is allocating itself. Any suggestions?

I'm trying to append my CPUs according to the guide above, but I'm unsure exactly how to do that. Do I just put the line

append isolcpus=2,3,6,7 initrd=/bzroot

anywhere in the syslinux.cfg file? Also... how do I know which CPU numbers to choose?

I spent like an hour looking through this thread, but it seems a lot of it is beyond my grasp. I have no idea how to go about pinning cores or anything.
