July 5, 201016 yr I've been using 4.4.2 for a very long time with no incident. Today I did a parity check (all is well) and tomorrow I'm going to upgrade a drive from a 300gb to a 1.5tb. During this process, I wonder, should I upgrade the server software? Is there a benefit? A danger to staying with what I have?
July 5, 201016 yr There are massive network and array writing speedups when upgrading from 4.4.2 to the 4.5.x series. My suggestion is to do the upgrades in small steps. 1) Run parity check on unRAID 4.4.2 2) upgrade from unRAID 4.4.2 to 4.5.6. 3) Run parity check on unRAID 4.5.6 4) Upgrade drive(s)
July 5, 201016 yr Are you running bubbaraid? If so, you cannot run it on anything other than 4.4.2. If you upgrade, you will probably want to start using unmenu if that is the case (and you aren't already using it). If you aren't using unmenu, it is pretty great, but a bit of a learning curve (not steep, but there are some 'things'). I did all this about a week or so ahead of you and I'm currently trying to get slimserver to work again (sigh). Chris
July 5, 201015 yr Author Nah, not using bubbaraid, but I am using unmenu. I haven't checked for unmenu updates since I got it running also, so probably a very old version as well. Slimserver? Unfamiliar with that as well. I literally got my server up, got it stable and the way I wanted, then just did monthly parity checks and left it alone.
July 6, 201015 yr Author Just an update for those interested. I upgraded the server, upgraded an older disk to a newer larger one, and everything went without a hitch at all. Of course 2 parity checks and 1 rebuild took bloody forever, lol, but that's expected when working with this amount of data. Kudos and glad to have purchased this software!
