July 9, 201015 yr Okay I have been using unraid 4.5.4 for about a week. I have a few questions. Everytime I stop the server it takes about 2 hours to unmount... I have 3 2T drives (one parity, two data)... So if it is generating parity only when I unmount does that mean if a hard drives fails it will only recover what was written before the last parity gen? thx, M-

I have 3 2T drives (one parity, two data)... So if it is generating parity only when I unmount does that mean if a hard drives fails it will only recover what was written before the last parity gen? thx, M- It un-mounts as soon as all the disks being written to are idle. You must be writing to the disks. It does not take two hours. It is nearly instant unless a disk is busy. If initially generating parity (You've not completed a full parity calculation), or you just invoked the "initconfig" command, invalidating any prior parity, and setting up a new disk configuration, then NOTHING is protected until a full parity calculation has occurred. If a disk drive fails, it is gone. Once the initial parity calculation is done, and the indicator on the parity drive in the web-management page is "green", parity is always kept in sync with writes to the files as they are written, there is no delay.
