Okay I have been using unraid 4.5.4 for about a week.  I have a few questions.  Everytime I stop the server it takes about 2 hours to unmount...  I have 3 2T drives (one parity, two data)... So if it is generating parity only when I unmount does that mean if a hard drives fails it will only recover what was written before the last parity gen?

thx,

It un-mounts as soon as all the disks being written to are idle.  You must be writing to the disks.  It does not take two hours.  It is nearly instant unless a disk is busy.

If initially generating parity (You've not completed a full parity calculation), or you just invoked the "initconfig" command, invalidating any prior parity, and setting up a new disk configuration, then NOTHING is protected until a full parity calculation has occurred.  If a disk drive fails, it is gone.

Once the initial parity calculation is done, and the indicator on the parity drive in the web-management page is "green", parity is always  kept in sync with writes to the files as they are written, there is no delay.

Also make sure you hit the refresh button on your browser to check the status of your drives. You might be waiting to long unless you have some issues.
