July 12, 201015 yr Just curious if there is any interest in archiving email on your unRAID Server via IMAP? I generally keep all my email. I usually use imap on the external servers (or use pop3 to download locally). Then I use a filter to move email older then 60 days to a local imap server Recently I compiled dovecot for slackware and installed it on unRAID. I then set it up with Thunderbird to allow archiving from my online imap stores to the unRAID server. Anyone archive emails like this or any other way? Is there interest in posting the compiled dovecot and a small howto? Currently this is only to store/warehouse email. It does not require an email server or subsystem to send email. It's not set up to allow sending email either. It's just a repository so it's not on my local PC.
July 15, 201015 yr Author Could this work to backup my gmail with imap? Yes, with thunderbird you setup two accounts one to gmial and one to the unRAID server. Then drag and drop from one imap folder to another. (Which is how I do it to a few different mailboxes) You can also set a message filter on thunderbird to move files older then a certain number of days. (Which is what I do others).

July 24, 201015 yr Author I've uploaded my compiled version on google code. http://code.google.com/p/unraid-weebotech/downloads/list I'm including my own dovecot.conf as a dos formatted .txt file so I can attach it to the board. My use will be different then others. I have two mail stores. One as mbox format, one as Maildir format. My goal is to move the mbox format from various area's in my network to the centralized Maildir archive. I use Thunderbird to access mail, and move messages. the conversion is done on the mail server. dovecot.conf.txt
April 19, 201115 yr I am in the process of reviewing my email handling. For the last fifteen years, all my email has been downloaded via POP, and held on a desktop machine. The machine which I am currently using is nine years old and rarely gets turned on for anything but email these days. This prompted me to explore Thunderbird on my most actively used desktop machine, running Ubuntu, and using IMAP. From what I've seen so far, I think that I can live with Thunderbird. However, I then thought that it would be good to be able to hold my (archived?) mail within the protected environment provided by unRAID - which led me to search the forum and find this thread. I will download Dovecot and give it a trial ... however, I was wondering whether it would be possible to put a fetcher (POP or IMAP) on the unRAID machine and download all my mail directly to Dovecot. Has anyone tried this?
