July 12, 201015 yr apparently I had one of these laying around from when I was planning a freenas box some years ago. Would anybody know if i can throw this into my unraid box?
July 13, 201015 yr Author If no body has tried it, i'm willing to throw it in. But is there a good way to test for corruption?
July 13, 201015 yr If no body has tried it, i'm willing to throw it in. But is there a good way to test for corruption? Run a memtest on the box overnight to eliminate RAM as a problem ahead of time. From there you can transfer a lot of data back and forth between your computer and the server and do some md5 sums on the files. Transfer large single file and multiple GB of smaller files to make sure everything is working corretly.
July 13, 201015 yr If no body has tried it, i'm willing to throw it in. But is there a good way to test for corruption? If copying from windows, use teracopy. It has a mode that will read back the file and compare CRC's. Or do an md5sum of the files before copying. Then do another on the server. If I remember correctly. Someone did an md5 before copying. They did an md5 after copying, but over the network via a remote drive. I don't remember too much more of the details, but I remember that copying in one direction was good, but in the other direction it revealed issues. I think it turned out to be the motherboard chipset.
August 13, 201015 yr Author Awesome, I've been a little busy but I plan to test this out soon. One last question. Do I have to test this on a brand new UNRAID? I mean if i test it in my current one and there is corruption. Will that throw my parity off and leave the rest of my data unprotected?
August 13, 201015 yr if you add something to the unRAID array, then detect there is corruption, then remove it you will need to recalculate parity. if you test this with a drive outside the array first, then chances are you are safe. I would ask myself. Would I test a questionable piece of hardware in the same machine as my valuable data?
August 14, 201015 yr Adaptec 2410sa doent play nice with unraid. Can see the card OK, loads drivers but drives arent recognized.
