July 12, 201015 yr Following the instructions in the preclear documentation, I successfully precleared 2 disks. I stopped the array, powered down then removed one of them, replaced it with a disk I wanted to wipe (and not use because there was something wrong with it), restarted successfully, wiped the disk, stopped the array, removed the disk, and replaced it with the precleared disk I had removed previously. I then rebooted. The two precleared disks were reported as precleared by preclear.sh. I then assigned them to the array. They are NOT replacing failed drives. Going to the main page of the Web-GUI, the start button is grayed out, and clicking on the refresh button does not do anything. The instructions in the preclear documentation imply that I should be able to click the start button, format the disks, and have them added to the array. Now what? (By the way, the array is fine with its original complement of disks.)
