Paak
Hey guys, I'm looking for a new router. I got an old linksys WRT54 and have been thinking of updating to something a little faster. I'm looking for a 802.11n gigabit. Newegg has both the Linksys E2000 and a D-Link DIR-655 for about the same price. Any thoughts or opinions on either? Link to comment
dgallaher
I've had the Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH recommended to me, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. You can flash dd-wrt on it if you'd like. Link to comment
DocBlock
I recently moved to a Netgear WNR3500L-100NAS which is their "open source" router. I flashed DD-WRT onto it and have been very happy. No external antenna ports though, if you are looking for that. There's plenty to read about the Netgear open source routers at http://www.myopenrouter.com. Link to comment
guiri
Well, the guy that built my unraid recommended the 655 to me and I got it from newegg a week ago when they were 65 bucks and so far, it's been running like a banshee so I'm happy. Before that I got a gigabit router (router only) but that gave me a problem so I'm sending it back. Link to comment
Rajahal
The DIR-655 is a great router (hence my recommendation to guiri). I use one as well, it has been running steadily for several years now. Link to comment
Paak
Ok, I ended up getting the DIR-655 and it works like a champ! except..... I can't get access to my unRAID! works fine when I hook my old router up but when I put the DIR-655 on I can't access anything. Typing ifconfig brings up the ip: 192.168.1.100 (which is what I assigned on the old router) but when I try to smb in or go to the Tower page i get server may not exist or is unavailable. any suggestions? Rajahal
First try to access your server directly by the ip address. So try this: http://192.168.1.100 Link to comment
Paak
Nope, nothing. I get "can't open page b/c server where this page is located isn't responding" Link to comment
Paak
When I type "ifconfig" on the unRAID, I get Inet Address instead of IP Address. If I switch back to the old router everything works fine. Link to comment
Rajahal
Hmm, weird. Have you changed any of the settings on the DIR-655? If you, you may want to reset it (the very small button in the back) so that we are starting from a clean slate. It may just start working after that. I know Guiri was having some trouble with his network and a reset fixed it. Link to comment
Paak
Reset router and still same thing. Can't connect =( Link to comment
Paak
I noticed that in the DHCP server settings the IP address range is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199, there is no 192.168.1.100 Link to comment
Rajahal
Is your unRAID server set to a static IP? I figured it was based on what you said earlier. If not, then try the link above but with whatever 'ifconfig' returns. Link to comment
graywolf
Can you change the DHCP range to 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199 ?? Just a thought, not really knowledgable on the network stuff. Link to comment
Paak
It was set to static but when I first had problems I hooked the old router up and I'm pretty sure I changed it back but I'll double check Graywolf: the range has an area where I can type in and I tried it as well but got a pop up saying DHCP server pool is not from subnet 192.168.0 Link to comment
Paak
Genius!@ Thanks a LOT guys. Turns out when I put the old router back on and clicked Obtain IP Address Automatically to Yes....I forgot to hit Apply! Everything works like it's suppose to now. I can see and read everything on the server, went back and switched Obtain IP back to No and this time I hit Apply! Everything is good to go and static once again! Link to comment
Rajahal
Glad to hear it. I was a bit worried there for a second... Link to comment
