GPU Questions

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just built my first unraid server and a little disapointed to find i cant boot without a graphics cards. If i do boot with the graphics card the fan on it goes like a bat out of hell, my questions are:

1. Is there a way to control the gpu fan speed.

2. Does anyone have any experience with an Asus P5QL Pro.

There seems to be some confusion on the net as to whether its possible and ive only managed to 1 site that discusses my board. This discussion quickly went off topic and alas no bios setting recommendations.

Any help much appreciated.

Regards

Mike

Try and get one of the cheap ATI PCI video cards.

Another choice is a passively cooled PCIe video card(but I would go PCI if I could).

geeks.com or eBay may provide some places to look.

I know matrox makes a PCIe x1 passively cooled video card (I have a few).

you can pick up PCI cards on ebay pretty cheap usually if you have a spare PCI slot, they are almost all passively cooled.

There are plenty of low-end video cards that are silent and have no fan at all.

The Artic Cooling "Accelero" passive radiator is also an excellent solution... I use one on the video cards in all my desktops.

There are different versions and sizes, with different numbers of heatpipes.  I highly recommend them over the stock active coolers on VGA cards if quiet is a priority.

Cheers for the replies. Was kinda hoping someone had an answer that didnt involve buying anything else.

In that case, just disconnect or disable he fan on the GPU.
