Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8: One drive spins up other drives

Featured Replies

I have two drives attached to the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8. One of the drives has content, the other is empty. When the first drive is spun up, the second drive spins up as well. They both go to sleep after one hour of being idle, which is normal.

This is unusual behavior considering the drives I have connected to the motherboard's sata ports act independently. For motherboard attached drives, when one spins up, the others remain asleep.

Any ideas why the Supermicro AOC-SASLP-MV8 doesn't allow drives to spin up independently?

Fyi, using version 4.5.4.Thanks.

Read about "spin groups" It may be why you are seeing multiple disks spin up at the same time.  It is by design to prevent interruptions in the playing of your movies.  They are described here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=4782.0

Thanks Joe. L. That's exactly what it was.
