Data drive replacement with drive larger than parity

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a 15x3TB array with dual parity. I've had a data drive fail, so I am replacing it. Went online and found great deals on 6TB drives, so I bought 2.

I know I need to replace my 2 parity disks with the 6TB's and move a 3TB parity to replace the data disk. I have found this procedure: https://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php/The_parity_swap_procedure and it seems like a relatively simply procedure.

I have 2 questions:

1) does this procedure still work in 6.3? Is this parity swap feature in the OS still?

2) how does this procedure work for dual parity? is there an ability to choose which drive is the old parity and which is the replacement? if so, can I repeat the process of the second parity disk? or am I better off, rebuilding the failed drive after the first one and just letting the system rebuild the second parity drive after the array is back up and running?

Cheers,

Yes, but for parity1 only, you can still do it and use parity1 to replace the failed disk and then upgrade parity2.
