January 25, 20188 yr I used pre-clear on a new drive and have now got this result twice. Should I be concerned and back the drive or not? January 25, 20188 yr Community Expert Any opinions on this?If you need to preclear use the script instead of the plugin, plugin has issues for some users.
January 25, 20188 yr Author Its been ok for me up until now, the only thing thats changed is I'm now on 6.4.0. It even cleared an identical drive last week perfectly which is why I was a little concerned that the pre-clear failed, that and the fact it turned up in very poor packaging from Amazon. This drive was to replace one of my dual parity dives so I guess the risk of using it is pretty low overall.

If you want an opinion on the disk's health post the current SMART report, since the plugin only shows some of the initial values.
January 26, 20188 yr Author The smart report short and extended were both perfect so I'm going to give it a try in the server, thanks for your advice.

Perfect as in "not failing" or did you look through all the individual counters? The drive manufacturers often reports success even when the drive is in rather bad shape.
April 30, 20188 yr Just tried the preclear script for the first time and after around 48 hours the script was just about to wrap up and I received the same error on the last step. I'm running an extended SMART report now, will report what I find but did you ever figure out what the deal was @rhinoman?
