Lose sound in Windows 10 VM when gaming

Featured Replies

Ever since upgrading to 6.4 final on one of my unRAID server which I use to game on in a Windows 10 VM, I find that I lose sound whenever I game. I only play one game at the moment, but it happens without fail every time, sometimes after only a few minutes, sometimes half am hour, but the sound dies. I have to exit the game and go back in to get sound again. What info can I provide for assistance? This never happened under previous releases of unRAID.

More information is needed.  What is the sound device you are using?  Is it a USB-based headset?  If so, are you passing through the USB controller its attached to or are you simply using USB assignment?  If not USB, onboard motherboard audio?  HDMI audio through the GPU?

Sounds like something hardware-specific or driver specific to me.  Especially if you don't even need to reboot the guest VM to fix it.

Thanks Jon, I agree that it's most likely hardware it's just odd that it was fine before the upgrade to 6.4 I am actually moving this VM to a different server all-together so I may have even more issues to deal with but thanks for the suggestion.

Don't mistake my post as a blanket blame on your hardware.  It very well COULD be something with 6.4, but without further information on the setup and your diagnostics, we really have nothing to go off of.

No I didn't take it that way at all, I've been working with computers for over twenty years, I know how these things go, but be one or the other or both and me not giving you more info doesn't help either. O.o

Thanks
