mrbilky Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I've been trying to port forward 1194 for open VPN and have had no success and its not related to openVPN, I finally called Verizon (Fios) and had a tech on the phone for over 45 minutes he came to the conclusion or should I say made the suggestion that I install a third party router? He could not open the port even though this Verizon leased router has a dyndns option built in ( Verizon Fios Quantum Gateway G1100 Wireless Wi-Fi Router Dual Band ) anybody have any experience with this issue or with verizon on this subject? My box is hooked up to their supplied extender and I asked him if that was this issue and was told no so now I'm stuck trying to figure out my next move
JonathanM Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Googled around a minute on your specific verizon box, and apparently it's not particularly straight forward or well supported to use a 3rd party router. The search terms used were " Verizon Fios Quantum Gateway G1100 bridge" without the quotes. Good luck!
Tybio Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I use an Asus router with my Fios connection, has a built in VPN and works much more reliablly than the Actiontek crap they sell. Also cost a lot less, but I guess for non-techies being able to call Verizon is a big benefit, I just found it to be useless most of the time.

Mind telling me which one your using will go that route if I can't get a better answer from them, but not holding my breath this guy said he was on their tech team 1 hour ago, jonathanm said: Googled around a minute on your specific verizon box, and apparently it's not particularly straight forward or well supported to use a 3rd party router. Was supposed to be Fios not Bios
Tybio Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 I just upgraded to this one: https://www.asus.com/us/Networking/RT-AC86U/ I have a RJ45 connection from Fios, so I'm not using the coax MOCA junk, which might be one of the reasons it is so trivial for me.
