I've run a few windows 10 vm's on unraid and all fine - but i want to swtich to Linux and Mint is particularly nice.

Running it in VNC is no issue. Running it with a NVidia GTX660 passed through installs OK and reboots fine - the snag is this:

When powering down - the display shows the linux mint icon permanently. (Even when VM fully shut down)

Sometimes during use (watching a movie on VLC player and browsing the web) the GPU output will freeze - but the audio is fine.

It's as though the GPU just stops being controlled by the vm.

I've tried various bios settings but seem to be getting nowhere.

The GPU card used to need a rom file for my windows builds but not in this.. even with the rom file it still freezes

Is it worth perervering - or moving to another distro?

**update**

found out about the "nomodeset" to fix freezes.. this didn't work for me - so removed and used "nouveau.noaccel=1"

Used Mint's "driver manager" to install nvidia drivers

The shutdown screen still displays even thought the vmware is shut down - as for the freezing issue - we'll have to see
