[6.4.1] Writing to cache slow after a few GB

Featured Replies

SSD cache. I have a share "download" which prefers cache. If I copy a file from a computer roughly the first 7 GB (RAM is 8 so maybe it is a clue) are copied as fast as they should with 1GB ethernet. But then speed drops to 50-75 MB/s and fluctuates. Tried it several time with start/stop raid/ reboots, nothing helps.  Any ideas?

The RAM size might be a clue since linux will use available RAM for I/O buffer. Are you sure the writes are going to cache? Cache-prefer tries to keep the share on cache, but there are scenarios that could make it write to the array instead; no room on cache or file already exists on array, maybe.

Yes, I am sure unfortunately. I just set up three shares.

cache yes

cache prefer

and only

in all cases the speed dropped (after approx 5 GB) from full speed down in the sixties.
