March 2, 20188 yr Hello, I'm in the midst of backing up my media currently and looking at OS's. I'm reusing my data drives that I've tested by other means. Can I just let Unraid handle the clear own its own or should I just let the Preclear plugin do it? Trying to keep my downtime low. This will be on a Xeon e3-1225 v3 with 4x4TB WD Reds that are roughly a year old in use. Edited March 2, 20188 yr by digitaldiatribe Added drive info.
March 2, 20188 yr Hello and welcome. Preclear serves two purposes. It zeros out the drive and prepares it to be quickly added to the array, and performs a stress test of the drive to weed out infant mortality failures. In your case I don't think preclear adds much value - I'd just add the drives to the array and let unRaid take care of them. It will take a while - but probably less time than a preclear pass.
