Mount a second unraid server to Plex

Featured Replies

Ok guys, bear with me.

Just installed plex server (binhex) using gridrunner's excelent video tutorial.

So .. I now have PMS running as docker on, lets say server1, and access to media appears ok, so it all hangs together.

But, my main media collection is on my unraid server2 so how do i go about mapping across??

i'm totally illiterate when it comes to anything techie so hod my hand please .... any examples out there?

Use the unassigned devices plugin to mount a remote SMB share to server2's media files

Then add another path mapping to Plex's template of something like /mnt/disks/server2/media (whatever UD comes up with) mapped to /server2  (And select the access mode as RW:Slave)

Then add the files from /server2 to the library in Plex

Thanks for that!

Just out of interest why 'RW:Slave' setting?

Because without Slave (I don't care if its R or RW), if the 2nd server isn't up and running when the container starts (or you reset it or turn it off), when it starts up the media in that share won't get mounted to the container.  It will show up as an empty directory

Thanks again. I dont really appreciate the ins and outs of the answer but i'll try and read up a bit more. Every little bit of knowledge helps here ...

Busy reading it now but it conflicts in places with how i've set mine up. I used gridrunner's video [emoji106]

EG... my mount points are /mnt/user/..... the guide just mentions /mnt .. what's the current concensus?

I linked the specific post referring to slave

  • 2 years later...

I am just trying to do this and when I set the RW as slave, as soon as I hit apply and plex docker restarts it refuses to run saying server error.  Any ideas?

Thanks for that - now I have it so Plex is starting but when I add the library in plex it doesn't find any files.  Not sure why I'm being so thick with this :(
