Can you define "doesn't work" ?

Is not an isolated issue I am using 2.6 for pfsense because someone in the forum told me that was the one that worked.

I will post an screenshot of the error I get when I bot the pfsense machine once I arrive home.

Why Pfsense, Sophos XG and other systems doesn't work with anything higher than pc-q35-2.6? Is an unraid issue it's in this way by design?

My pfsense 2.4.2-RELEASE-p1 firewall is running 2.11 without any problems. So it's not an unRaid or KVM issue.

Ok, there's something odd going on here....

  1. You have SATA for your vdisk so I tried that - still wouldn't install
  2. Then I spotted you only had 1 vcpu - Eureka - that worked
  3. Then tried virtio for vdisk - didn't work - made sense
  4. Then tried adding 4 vcpus (12,26 and 13/27) like in my vm - didn't work, so I thought I was onto something maybe can't have more than one vcpu at install...
  5. so tried different combos of vcpus - some worked, some didn't initially ....and then suddenly they all worked in any combo
  6. went back to my 4 vcpus from #4 and now they worked......tried again and fine....

Each time I did a fresh install.

I've going to copy across my config file to the new VM - will let you know if it stops working at any point

Turn on Advance mode and retake a screenshot

Also I suggest making a bridge between physical and pfsense vm, That's how I do it

No advance mode in 6.5

and I'd rather not use the bridge in my server. I have it setup using an isolated pcie on purpose.  I'm not the one having problems in this thread.

So what is the solution? Using sata instead VirtIO?, and what did you do with the cores to make it work, does it makes any sense?

To me it sounds like an unraid bug @limetech
