March 16, 20188 yr B&H Photo Video has the HGST 10TB Deskstar 7200 rpm NAS drive for $288. Is this a good drive for unRAID or is it too many eggs in one basket given its size (one drive failure is whole lot of data)?

I think it's all relative to one's needs for storage; given size of your parity drive (unless you want to buy more then one, and upgrade your parity drive to 10TB - or already have a 10TB parity); and how much cash you want to spend on your storage.
March 16, 20188 yr Historically Hitachi / HGST have been the most dependable drives. I would have no issue with a 10T HGST. Of course you need 2 of them (one for parity) in order to be able to use a data drive that large. Has a lot to do with how many slots you have, and how big you intend to grow your array. If you have only 1-2 slots left and want to make them count, bigger is better! The most expensive thing to do is to upsize a perfectly good drive because you are out of slots and need more space!
