How to do scheduled backups of a single file in Win8 VM to array and automatically delete versions older than X days?

Featured Replies

I have a Windows 8 VM on my unRAID server and want to back up a single file from the VM.  I want the file to be automatically backed up to a share on my unRAID array.  I'd like the file to be backed up daily and I also want it to delete versions of the file that are older than X days (so I don't forget about it and have hundreds of copies of the file).  I can't seem to find a utility that will do this.  I know Win8 has file history but I think that only works for an entire drive or folder.  I don't want to backup the whole driver/folder, just the one file.  Any recommendations are much appreciated!

EaseUS TODO backup will do what you want, I don't remember if the free version will let you backup single files, or if it's just the entire disk, but the paid-for version certainly will do what you want.  EaseUS.

Could probably also do it using some batch files and Windows Task scheduler, but it would be a home-brew solution for sure.

Looks like WIndows 8 has a backup utility too (although I hardly hear good things about MS Backup applications - in general)

Hope that helps.
