March 19, 20188 yr https://pcpartpicker.com/list/KbTm4C Anything I should change or recommend? I have an extra SSD for caching purposes. I want this NAS to function as a plex server as well as a personalized redundant storage solution using 1 parity drive. Do add-on SATA adapter cards work for adding more drives in the future? Are they compatible with unraid?
March 21, 20188 yr Your setup is near the same that I will be building. There are a few questions that I have for you. 1. How many transcodes will you be using. Meaning how many streams will you be using for family/friends at a given time? I believe this is 2 threads so 4 streams can be handled at once. 2. There is a site called backblaze that has been keeping track of hard drive failures. Good information there when selecting hard drives. The trend is there moving away from 4TB drives and going with 8TB's. I am not sure if your funds can handle that, but it would be good for growth. Look for external drives or internal for approx 150.00 .. that would run you about 80.00 more in the build, but you get 12 more TB's. That is just good numbers 80.00 = 12 TB's or better yet if you went with 3 more 4tb's that would cost you 123.16 x 3 = 370.00 vs. 80.00 3. Your correct on the sata adapter as one could be had for 50.00 that will give you 6-8 additional drives. Your MB has 6 to start out with so good shape there. Love the case... 4. Memory is decent meaning it will be a good start if you go for the 3 x 4TB drives. I would double that if going for the 24TB (3 x 8TB) Hopefully this helps you with your build....
