correct way of deleting shares?

Featured Replies

I have a share which i dont need anymore, whats the correct way of removing it? (idc for the data)

  • Community Expert

Shares are just top level folders, either delete the folder on all disks it's present or delete all data on the share and remove it using the GUI.

I'm also wondering where I can delete a share? I can't find a button.

I believe that you will only be offered the delete option in the GUI if a share is completely empty.

Ah ok. Yes I found the checkbox.

Thanks

how do i go about deleting a share with data in that i can`t delete the files in windows.

From the console, run "mc" to launch Midnight Commander then navigate to /mnt/user/[share name] to delete files then go to the GUI to delete share (which should now be possible as the share is empty).

For a more Explorer-like interface, you can use Dolphin or Krusader dockers. The path to delete will be different depending on how you do the docker mappings.

The reason to delete from the GUI is to also delete any redundant smb settings.

Thank you that helped great deal, managed to delete nextcloud and steamcache.

Do you want to put that 7.45GB somewhere else?

NVM

I see you are talking about the 0B folder.

Do you know how to work directly with the disks?

I don't understand much about this question

I don't want disk4 to be in the PLEX folder.  I only want the 1,2,3 disk there.  Disk4 is ssd and there is only metadata from PLEX.

Disk4 is ssd

Do you know that SSDs in the array can't be trimmed? And can't be written any faster than parity?

You can get rid of that empty PLEX folder on disk4 from the command line

rmdir /mnt/disk4/PLEX

Yes I know about that and that's why I wanted to go through disk4. I don't know how, but I accidentally added disk4 when creating the PLEX folder.
