Upgrade Existing Supermicro CPU

Featured Replies

Hello everyone ... I am not a expert on server architecture so I am looking for some guidance

I have a Supermicro X11SAE-M

I am currently running it with an Intel Core i3- 6100 CPU. I would like to repurpose this CPU and replace the Unraid CPU with a XEON.

The is board will accept per the Specs INtel Xeon 1200 V3 LGA 1155

Is this the only model I should replace with ?  Any ideas or suggestions.  I am running 5 drives (20tb)and 1 Parity drive plus a Cache drive.

I would like to improve the performance a little. Should I use a SSD for a cache drive?

One thing to do is make sure the bios is up to date. If not do it with the working CPU installed. If you get a new CPU it probably won't work with old bios.

No, it will accept Xeon E3-1200 v5/v6 LGA 1151, v6 needs bios 2.x

Thanks So I can upgrade my Bios  to the 2.x and then I can get a v6. Cool. Thanks!

I was thinking about this with 8 threads

E3-1240V6

One other thing to think about is if you use plex or emby. You could get the E3-1245 v6 and use the Intel gpu for transcoding. Just pick IGFX in the graphics section of the BIOS.
