March 30, 20188 yr Hi, can anyone suggest a cheap used Intel based nic with at least 2 gigabit ports? I want to try pfsense as my main router and remove the operator one. I will setup:-vlan for VoIP with dchp-vlan for IPTV-vlan for internet with ppoe I need:-dchp 240-hw Nat-proxy IGMP for multicast paquets from IPTV to lan-dpxy for multicast to unicast-IGMP snooping Sorry to write this being not accurate. But I am new to all this and all I am trying is to sum up all requirements I read needed to setup pfsense. I am still not sure what from all that I wrote should the NIC provide. I know certain things are provided by the switch but I am not sure about the NIC. Hope to hear from you what options do I have.
March 30, 20188 yr are you plan to run pfSense as VM under unRAID? if so, then you will lose network on unRAID reboot... just keep in mind this possible downtime.. there are tons of cheap and capable hardware routers that can do all of your things you wrote.

Not really looking to use a VM for this. I want to isolate the router from unraid. Now I will use an old MB for playing around on how to setup everything. Later I will decide to buy a specific hardware (router) or still use pfsense installed on a nuc.

April 3, 20188 yr I have a reasonably good i350-T2 I got off eBay, it's a HP branded unit. Was cheap. I've also had decent success with Broadcom cards, mostly Dell branded ones. I use them in pfsense, they're cheaper than 'real' Intel cards, and work just as well.
