I am suggesting somewhere appropriate in the GUI unRAID show drives with HPA.

This could probably be done with a plugin if required.

I dont know if unRAID will format an HPA drive but I suggest it at least warns the user of the implications first.

We should not expect users to have knowledge of HPA in advance expecting them to go and check.

I think the section where you click on a drive and a drive option screen pops up is a good place.

From here it looks like the start for further options such as Spin down timer, various filesystems, spin down and HPA notification/removal would be appropriate.

Could be done... you have to run hdparm -I, and then hdparm -i, and compare the number of sectors returned.

My driver is obviously that unRAID is aimed to be n00b friendly and n00bs wont even know this problem exists.

In an ideal world something up front and centre or a health check would tell them "HPA Problem. Please read this wiki page"

I didn't mean to imply that hdparm is what a user should use... I was attempting to provide guidance to someone who might want to write such a plugin.

I would do it, but I'm covered up on other stuff right now.

Note that for drives > 128G, you have to look for " LBA48" in the hdparm -I output, rather than "LBA"

Unzip these 2 files onto /usr/local/webGui

HPA will be displayed on the disk info page of individual disks, if that disk has an HPA.
