LSI 9300-8i in PCIe 2.0 x4 slot?

Featured Replies

I own a Supermicro X10SL7-F board with a LSI 9300-8i adapter card in it's PCIe 3.0 x8 (in x16) slot. On that board is another PCIe slot. But this one is 2.0 (not 3.0) and x4 (in x8) only.

I would like to buy another LSI 9300-8i adapter (for future use). Would that work in the currently empty PCIe 2.0 x4 (in x8) slot? Mechanical it would fit I guess (in x8). What about electronical compatibility?

Thanks in advance.

Yes, there could be some performance issues during parity check and disk rebuilds especially if you're using the onboard SATA ports as that slot is a PCH slot.

or use SAS Expander? @johnnie.black have some nice pictures with it :)
