Yes. Just put the folder in your list of ignored files

Awesome, thanks!

Would you know how I could move the entire folder back from the array to cache so it can stay there?

Thanks!

  • How to ignore a SINGLE file 1.) Find the path of the file you wish to ignore.     ls -ltr /mnt/cache/Download/complete/test.txt         root@Tower:/# ls -ltr /mnt/cache/Download/complete/test

  • Hi all, I made a new version of the plugin. This fork replaces @hugenbdd's plugin which is not maintained anymore and will land in community applications if your feedbacks are positive.

The new plugin seems to ignore the setting 'Let scheduled mover run during parity/rebuild'.

My scheduler is set every 3 months to perform a parity check and my server is running a parity check right now. I have this setting set to 'no'. This morning, I checked its progress and noticed that after 8 hours, the server only has done 2TB of parity check. I told myself thats slow then checked the logs and saw mover moving files during parity check.

Has anyone experienced this issue?

I am transferring files from an old drive to my new server.  I attached the drive under unassigned devices and then used krusader to move the files to my download cache drive (file structure is via trash guides).  I would like mover to move the files from the cache to the array.  However, it does not seem to be doing so.

Hello community,

We receive your inquiries and requests for assistance.  Please to be sure to provide diagnostics, current version of Unraid OS installed and any other info.  The more detail (without personal details/personal info excluded) the better that can is provided is exceptional as It helps the maintainer(s) and the entire community out as a whole.  Digging down to figure out what the issue(s) are takes time and the more info that can be provided the better.

I post this as a fellow Unraider and someone who works in the IT field.  We as a community appreciate the requests, just the more detail that can safely be provided and included as others have done, with screenshots where necessary the better.  We also appreciate the the community as a whole and the maintainer(s) of the plugin.

Can the old Plugin removed from the CA or a Update/hint of the new Version? For lower Confusion about two "same" Plugins.

Maybe over the fix common Plugin and his Checks?

What doing the empty folder Option?

Mover moved files and we have a empty folder with 0 Bit Size this was removed and we have after a clean/empty Pool with no empty folders?

I put a .keep empty file in dir's I want to keep.

I'm finding even with "Log Mover Tuning plugin actions" set to no, that it's logging to `/tmp/ca.mover.tuning`.
The problem file is `Filtered_files_`*, which grows and grows, using up a large amount of ram, eventually triggering OOM.

So THAT'S why my cache was full all of a sudden, kind of sucks i had to forum-dive to find out it doesn't work in 7.0, oh well. I'd do a pinned post on this thread about it at least :)

It should be affecting your ram, unless you have tmp pointed to your cache.

The what now ? RAM usage is normal in my end, removed the mover plugin and it started moving files again

Were you responding to another message other than my own?
Mine was referring to files created that were filling up the ram.

Mmm, and the job files say the smart move is being used, even though that setting is off.

I've uninstalled the plugin for now, and the mover works without screwing my ram over.

My suggestions for plugin development with my experiences so far would be:

  1. Make sure the settings are being read and used. I'm not confidant they are currently.
  2. Offer storing the files in tmp on alternative storage, such as the cache or array. While ram is a great place for active files, it's able to starve out other processes and trigger the OOM.

I'll add some screenshots from the last run (which I had to cancel), but as is it's not safe to run the plugin with the OOM risk.image.thumb.png.3f49e95f8147455a080cc461d44d9874.png

Problems with mover tuning plugin and Unraid patch plugin.

Mover patch fails to install with mover tuning plugin installed due to the fact that this plugin renames mover. I uninstalled this plugin so that I could install the patch. Rebooted my server and then re-installed this plugin. SERVER CRASHED. I have rebooted and again uninstalled this plugin since I’m not sure of the exact cause of the crash. Is this plugin incompatible with Unraid 7.0 and the patch plugin?

Once the automated parity check finishes I may try installing the plugin again but would rather not be a guinea pig.😁

Wow ,seems i have old version of plugin 2023.12.19 ... i should move to new plugin ....

Hi, sorry if this question has already been answered but can I run the new Reynalds version of this plugin on unraid 7.0.0. I read above that it might crash the server so am hesitant to try installing it

I might have found unwanted Mover Tuning behaviour - I run Unraid 7.0.0 and Reynolds Mover Tuning both in the current version.

I want the mover to start moving when the cache is filled to a certain level, but not empty it completely.

The settings are:

- Only move if above this threshold of used Primary (cache) space: 50%
- Free down/prime up to this level of used Primary (cache) space: 30%
- Move files off Primary (cache) based on age? No
- Move files that are greater than this many days old: Auto

All advanced options are on default (which is No...).

The mover checks hourly if the threshold to start moving is reached, and only moves, when this is the case. So far, so good.

But it empties the cache completely, which is unexpected.

It works, however, when 'Move files based on age' is set to 'yes'.

If this behavior is intended, it would be nice to give a hint in the interface, as the 'Free down/prime...' lower threshold is effectively disabled when 'Move files based on age' is set to 'yes'.

Other than that - I am fairly new to Unraid, this plug-in is the first for me and it's fantastic - great job!

I was reading through this topic to figure out why my mover kept moving everything when that was not my intention. What you posted is why, thanks for this fix.

Is there a reason why this plugin wont move empty parent folders of files that were moved to the array? I suspect its because of the option where it requires no less than 5% of data to remain on cache at any one time. If I'm understanding correctly, why would the developer not have a 0% (i.e. move all data everytime to array) option? Seems like a glaring omission

known issue and the dev is looking into the open issues

honestly, when you always move everything, why are you using the plugin anyway ?

its meant to keep files on cache ... and 5 % fillrate (total) on cache is ... pretty fast in use anyhow,

but anyway, also this was already noted when i remember correctly.

The reason why to use the plugin is a setting that doesnt exist in Unraid. Which is to disable mover while Parity check is running

when i remember correctly, there is a plugin parity check tuning which can pause parity check while mover is running, just as alternative ... maybe something better suited for your usecase ?

There is a plugin called parity check tuning that will do what you want and you can then use the OG mover.
