So not sure if rsync has issues but move should work faster, will be cool to hear from users if any feedback for it.

I will test it again with the mover binary, don't have any issues with that running or breaking hard links!

I cannot download the debug package for the plugin. When I press the button in the plugin settings, I am receiving the following error message:

ERROR: The Mover Tuning Debug Package Generation Script has failed - no response from the bash backend.

I have disabled the file validation option, but it still does not move files with $.

Are you able to get diagnostic.zip for unraid or also has error?

Can confirm sometime got error but, If I have error just goes back to page and click again.

Also you can press F12 to open browser dev page with cache disabled and try then

I am so sorry if this is mentioned earlier, but it seems this plugin is ignoring the cache:prefer setting when it comes time for the mover to actually process. It analyzes correctly. After spending time moving files via unbalanced, Mover Tuning moved them right back. At 11 am today, I see this in the logs. It runs hourly.

You have wrong setting for cache:prefer, delete it and make override settings again you should have fill up thresholds. You can use default buttons will reset all settings and delete all overrides

when running mover manually from console.. it runs and does what it does but then it just sits at the cleaning up stage and never finishes.. but scheduled mover seems to work fine...

Well, seems i can reproduce same issue in main server when in cli "mover start" stuck at :

No new files will be moved/synced from primary to secondary

No new files will be moved/synced from secondary to primary

Will try to fix it.

in test server there is no such issue ...

I'm using Frigate on unraid with constant recording. Due to how frigate reassembles clips this entails moving several hundred thousand 10 second segments that are ~2MB each. I removed parity from the pool to avoid the parity write penalty and I'm getting about 18-20MB/s write speed on Ultrastar HC530 disks using move. Rsync does a bit better at 25MB/s. Mover tuning settings are pretty standard, moved based on age with normal priority.

This basically means it takes about 3 days to put 1TB on cache and about 12-16 hours to move it to disk lol.

Obviously writing to cache just to move it is a bit silly but I like the low latency on M.2 and ability to spin down. Any suggestions on speeding this up further before I descend into normalcy and write directly to pool?

Why would it result in 1 and go to 0%? Or do you mean in their case, not yours?
The description you highlighted claims that when using "auto" moving should continue "until threshold is met". This must mean it should stop when "Free down" threshold is passed, no?

I am in the process of setting up my own rules to keep as much new media on my cache as possible, and I just want to understand my options.
I was thinking of going for 85% Move, 75% Free (10% = 400GB, so large files should be moved) and Auto on days.

This might be dumb question, but what is the difference between mover and Rsync? I get it, that mover is closed source etc. but for typical Joe, what are benefits one over another? I was moving mover originally, but when I moved to mover tuning I guess I moved to rsync anyway?

In new version you can choose to use unraid binary move with plugin filters (will add more help descriptions) , that in theory should work faster than Rsync for when many files to move, also maybe some issues that rsync has like users was complain about files dates or/and some more maybe.

Will be cool to have feedback for it, if have some advantages when using move

At least in my limited testing Rsync seemed ~50% faster than native move.

@Masterwishx I tried the new move utility and it seems to fail on hardlinked files. Actually, it's unclear to me if it's working on non-hardlinked files as well. Due to how my cache is currently structured nearly everything that is being moved is hardlinked at the moment. Here is a snippet of the log:

Nothing in the log really jumps out at me as not working; however, if I check the location of those files I can see that nothing has actually moved. I'm also a bit concerned as the hardlinked paths are not all showing up. You can see that two hardlinks are found here:

Whether or not this is related to the actual issue (no files actually moved) is also unclear to me, but I thought it was interesting to point out.

Toggling only the tool back from mover to rsync and files/hardlinks are being moved as expected.
