Parity Disk Performance Impact Operations?

Featured Replies

I've been wondering if the performance of a drive makes a significant difference as a parity drive.  I have harvested the Seagate ST5000DM000 5TB 5900 RPM 128MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Hard Drive from several External USB drives that were on sale for $120 a couple years ago.  I've been using the drives and not really noticed any problem.  Recently, I pulled one of the drives and used it in my Z370 desktop.  Transferring large files to it Sata 0 to Sata 3 (all 6 gb/s) has slogged along at 5-30MB/s.  I could have transferred the files to my unraid server and back at 113mb/s across 1GB/s Enet.  So puzzled by the slow Sata to Sata transfer.  So I'm wondering if using these drives on unraid could cause intermittent performance problems?
