Cache removal blues

Featured Replies

I built my second unRAID box and wanted to move 2x1T SSD cache disks from the old unRAID box to the new box. My plan was to install 2x 512G to the old one.

Following the method on http://lime-technology.com/wiki/Replace_A_Cache_Drive , I stopped VM and docker services and set all the shares with Prefer types to Yes. I don't have any cache only type share. Then started mover.

After about 20 hours, the mover was still on and moved from appx. 90GB just to 53GB. Then the cache pool used size as appeared on main page stagnated at 53GB level. I had to stop mover by "mover stop" command.

Can I move the files manually with something like "mv  /mnt/cache/* /mnt/disk4/temp-cache" ? Then, after installation of the new SSDs (2x 512GB), I will move them back to the new cache pool. Or maybe I should move the contents of old cache pools to the corresponding shares instead of some temp-cache directory.

I would appreciate any hint. Thanks.

Why do you think the mover needed to be stopped? The method does work but it can be slowed down if there are a lot of very small files on the cache. The usual culprit is Plex's appdata. I would run the mover again and wait it out.

The box was needed in another location, that's why I had to stop it.

I will try it again and see what happens.

Thank you.
