Another disk read error post...

Featured Replies

I've been slowly moving drives and data from old server to new, and added 2 drives a couple days ago. I was running a drive scanner on the old server and these drives seemed fine. Today I got the notice of read errors on disk 4, I ran an extended smart test and it came up with "Errors occurred - Check SMART report".  Server diagnostics attached. Is this grounds for sending in the drive for warrenty?

Is there a good video or post that anyone knows of that explains smart reports? I'm not really sure what I'm looking at.

You might want to read this:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.

You also have to realize that every HD manufacturer decides which parameters to report, how to format the results, and their interpretation of what the parameter is actually showing about the drive.  As a result, most folks tend to focus on these reported parameters which can trigger a report to the user.  (They are found under   Settings    >>>   Disk Settings     under the   GLOBAL SMART SETTINGS    section.)

Yes, disk4 has failed, disk1 is failing and will likely fail very soon.

Thankyou for all the help. I'm still figuring out SMART data, but I'll keep reading.

All of the 4tb drives are under warranty. I have a prescanned 4 tb cold spare, and I think I'll replace disk 4 first and advance rma a disk for disk 1.

What does this mean? Something wrong in the cabling? All of the drives are in tool-less trays, so I don't have to touch the cabling when removing drives. Should I go over them anyway?

Sorry just mean disk1 also not in good condition. Agree RMA later.
