How to update unRAID Configuration File

Featured Replies

All, this follows my original post with great detail about my unRAID server machine checks / crash.  Bottom line I was forced to rebuild by hardware.  I saved my config file (as instructed) and rebuilt new hardware.  The new hardware configuration has my 16 drives connected to 3 LSI SATA controllers.  My original configuration (and the config file would support) had 16 drives connected to 1 LSI controller.  There is many reasons why this part of the new hardware build had to change.

I believe this is messing up unRAID.  Symptom: unRAID will not load the GUI.  I get all the way to the choosing to boot using the GUI.  After i enter my password the screen flashes and attempts to bring up the main unRAID GUI menu.  I get an error Unable to connect (exactly what you see if you cant get to a web page).  I troubleshot the following.  From my unRAID console I can get to google and ran a speed test successfully.  I can see my unRAID server (Flash folder only) on my home network.  Also, i noticed when unRAID is loading i used to see throughout the load all 16 of my drives.  Now I only see 4 drives (which I verified through the LSI configuration utility 1 LSI controller has 4 drives connected and the other 2 LSI controllers each have 6 drives connected) so it appears unRAID is only seeing the 1 LSI controller.  Again I'm wondering if this is because the config file I saved from my original hardware build only had one LSI controller with the 16 drives attached?

I'm looking for any ideas that would save the 16 TB of unRAID data I have on these drives.  Is there a way to edit the config file to tell unRAID about the additional 2 LSI controllers?

If I start with a new (virgin) unRAID install (new config file) will it search and find the 3 LSI controllers without destroying my 16TB of data stored on the drives?

Apologies if I appear desperate but at this point I am.

Thanks,

RS

UnRAID does not care how your drives are connected as it recognises drives by serial number.    Your problem will be somewhere else.    It could be something like the motherboard not liking multiple controllers plugged in.

if you can get to the console then try running the ‘diagnostics’ command.   If this completes OK then there will be a zip file in the logs folder on the flash drive.    Upload this and you may get some more informed feedback.

I can get to the console.  Sorry I don't know anything about Linux.  Can you share what I would type to run the diagnostic?

Thanks,

Tried that.  Maybe I'm not understanding.  At the unRAID menu I select first option.  Then I log into root.  At the command prompt I type diagnostic?

RS

yes

It will write the diagnostics to your flash drive. Then shutdown and put your flash in your PC and post the diagnostics.

Thanks!  Hope this will help isolate.  unRAID when booting only sees 6 of my 16 drives.  But when the server is first booting I can do a control c and enter into the LSI utility.  Through this utility I see all 3 LSI controllers, 2 controllers show 6 drives each and the 3rd controller shows the remaining 4 drives.  So to me it appears unRAID is only seeing one of the LSI controllers.  In my original configuration I only had 1 LSI controller that had all 16 drives connected to it.

When I chose option 2 GUI it goes through loading (again when loading and looking at the console it only reports 6 drives) then it starts to open the unRAID GUI and fails with Unable to connect (see image below).

Thanks,

RS

Your diagnostics shows 14 data disks plus 2 parity disks. It all looks like I would expect for a system where the array hasn't been started yet.

Maybe someone else will take a look.

This is what I would guess

I would modify ident.cfg on the flash drive (/config) and change USE_SSL from auto to no.   I could be out to lunch though

Thanks guys.  Can someone walk me through how to change this?  I'm illiterate when it comes to Linux our Unix.  Also, would this cause the issue I'm having where I can't bring up the unRAID GUI?  Again, since I do not know Linux I have been doing everything through the unRAID GUI.  The problem I am experiencing is the GUI does not load and i receive (pic above) unable to connect.  Last question (for now) do you know of anyone I could hire that could log in and configure this new server for me?  I have no idea how to setup for dual CPU.  I'm only using this server as my Plex Media Server.  I would like to have someone configure including all the apps to pull down, convert and populate my library with movies and TV shows.  The 16TB of data I'm trying to not loose already contains ~1200 movies, ~ 20 TV Series...

You can do it on a windows box.  Pull the flash, and edit that file using Notepad accordingly.

Ok.  I changed USE_SSL from auto to no.  Did not fix the issue of booting into the unRAID GUI.  I log into root put in my password the screen attempts to open up unRAID GUI and instead I get unable to load page (top left corner in url bar) and main screen message of unable to connect.  I ran diagnostics (log attached) and found these errors?

Thanks again for any ideas you might have.
