April 21, 20188 yr Hey guys, I'm setting out on a mission to create some standards for my Plex media library and I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have 1000+ movies, and about 13,000 episodes from 225 shows. With the vast range of players in my network I am fine having the containers be either mkv or mp4. Anything that is currently avi, wmv, or mov I would like to mux into MKV. So the first task is switching those to MKV. Then comes the internals of my mkv and mp4 files. I want to convert anything that isn't currently H.264 to be converted to it (with the exception of any H.265 files) I'm not sure if I need to set the audio tracks and it so if there is any that I should be looking to eliminate so I'm open to advice there. The the last thing is I'm looking for something that can scan all my video files and change any Audio track that is tagged as unknown/unidentified to english. I know a bunch of this can be done from MKVToolNix but I'm unsure and unclear on how to write a script to do this. Any help is super appreciated, and bonus points if you know a way I could have a script auto-apply these settings to any newly downloaded content grabbed by Sonarr and Radarr. Thanks!
May 1, 20188 yr Is there any reason your not just letting Plex deal with this all on its own? I guess the reason I'm asking is I'm confused to exactly what your trying to accomplish in the end. Are you limited to just using your unRAID server or are you willing to use a PC or Mac to do this. Long time ago I can't remember the name of the app, but I did some batch MKV'n because I had several files that was ISO's to MKV's so I know there are app's that will batch convert. I'm sure you could use FFMPEG too.
May 17, 20188 yr Author Couple of goals here. Reducing the amount of files that need to be transcoded fully and trying to fix subtitles by changing the unknown audio files to English so that Plex can detect properly when it needs to automatically show subtitles. The hard drives are only connected to the UNRaid server currently so if any automation can happen on future files it would have to be for UNRaid but if the initial batch convert requires a Mac or PC to handle the large amount of files, that could be arranged.
